What does "Are you an expat" mean when filling out my profile on BoligPortal?

Have more questions? Submit a request

When you fill out your profile on BoligPortal, you will be asked whether you are an expat. Being an expat means that you are temporarily living in Denmark due to work, studies, or another assignment, while your permanent residence is in another country.

In other words you are posted abroad by an employer or educational institution.

Typical examples of being an expat

  • You have been sent to Denmark by your employer abroad
  • You are an exchange student or on a research stay in Denmark
  • You are working in Denmark for a limited period but have permanent residence abroad

You can therefore answer 'Yes' if you are temporarily staying in Denmark and usually live in another country.

And you can answer 'No' if you live permanently in Denmark or are moving here permanently.

Why do I need to indicate whether I am an expat?

We ask whether you are an expat when you fill out your profile because it may be relevant information for landlords.

For example, if a landlord needs to rent out their property for a shorter period, or if there are specific rental conditions that are particularly well suited for expat tenants, it can be very relevant if you have stated this on your profile.
