When you are asked to provide your CPR number, for example, when signing the rental contract or during the move-in inspection, it is because your landlord is using BoligPortal's service for automatic registration with one of our partner utility providers.
The electricity company needs your CPR number to register you and your rental property with the relevant electricity agreement.
Neither your landlord nor BoligPortal can see your CPR number.
Your full CPR number, including the last four digits, will never be visible to anyone other than the utility company with which your electricity contract is set up.
When might you be asked to provide your CPR number?
On BoligPortal's platform, you will only be asked for your CPR number in connection with signing up for one of the utility companies BoligPortal partners with. You should never provide your CPR number unless you are certain that the requester is entitled to it and will store it securely.
We ask you to provide your CPR number when...
- Your landlord registers you for an electricity agreement via BoligPortal
- You personally choose an electricity agreement via BoligPortal
Registration for electricity through BoligPortal's digital rental contract
Regardless of how you provide your CPR number, it will never be visible in the final rental contract.
When your landlord registers you for electricity
In BoligPortal’s digital rental contract, your landlord can choose one of BoligPortal's partners as your electricity provider. There are two ways to provide your CPR number as authorization for the electricity registration:
- Your landlord asks you for your CPR number so they can enter it on your behalf.
- Your landlord lets you enter it yourself when you sign the contract.
If your landlord enters your CPR number in the contract, it will appear like this from their side. This clearly informs your landlord that they may only request your CPR number if there is a specific purpose for it.
If you are required to enter your CPR number yourself, this message will appear when you sign your rental contract.
When you choose your own electricity contract
If the landlord specifies in the rental agreement that the tenant must sign up for an electricity contract themselves, you will be offered the opportunity to register for electricity before you sign the contract. It is only after you have selected the electricity provider you want that you will be asked to enter your CPR number.
Only the digits of your birthdate are visible to the landlord and employees at BoligPortal.

Registration for electricity through BoligPortal's move-in report
When the landlord uses BoligPortal's digital move-in report, the landlord can make automatic registration for electricity. Here, as a tenant, you must fill in your details – including your CPR number. Please note that only you as the tenant are allowed to fill in the information. The landlord is not permitted to enter your details on your behalf in the move-in report.
Your CPR number will never be shared with others, and we always handle it in accordance with Danish law. Likewise, all tools and systems are encrypted and completely secure for you to use.
You can always read how BoligPortal processes your data in our privacy policy.
Yes, landlords and housing associations may, in certain cases, require the tenant's CPR number, but only under specific conditions and for particular purposes.
There are strict rules regarding the protection of personal data under the GDPR legislation, which also applies to landlords and housing associations. This means that they can only collect and store CPR numbers if it is necessary to fulfill their legal obligations, and they must store the information securely.
When you are asked to enter your CPR number through BoligPortal, the purpose is described directly above the CPR field.
Landlords and housing associations are not allowed to use the CPR number for purposes that are not directly related to the rental agreement, such as marketing or sharing information with third parties without the tenant's consent. There must be a specific and clear reason for requesting your CPR number.
If you are unsure why they are requesting your CPR number, we recommend that you contact your landlord directly.
You are always fully entitled to refuse to provide your personal information, but the landlord or housing association is also fully entitled to request it in specific cases where there is a legally valid purpose – for example, when registering with a utility company.
However, if you refuse to provide your CPR number, you may risk the landlord not wanting to proceed with the rental process.
If you are concerned about providing your CPR number, you can ask the landlord why it is necessary and how it will be stored and used. If the landlord uses BoligPortal's tools, such as for signing the lease, you can always be sure that your CPR number is stored securely and correctly, and only used for the purpose described when entering it.
